Reptile Auctions

We’ll be exploring the idea of auctioning animals on facebook. The idea stemmed from the success that Ben Siegel has had with his reptile auctions. My first concerns were of course not just selling animals to people that were not going to be able to care for the animals the way we would like. The more I thought about it, the more I realize that when we sell an animal to a customer at a show or someone orders off our site, we have no idea what qualifications they have. We have to hope that when someone is buying a snake from a pet shop, a website, a reptile show or even winning a reptile in a contest, that they have done their research and are capable of keeping that animal. Of course we’re going to put some things together to try our hardest to insure that  the buyers are more then just buying on a whim.

With all that said, we have a great group of supporters on FaceBook and from a business stand point it would be silly not to try to use that to find good homes for some of our animals for sale. We’ll start small and see where it goes. We don’t want to start by auctioning a $10k snake for $200! We want to protect the market! For now the auctions will be Monday through Friday, starting at about noon EST. We’ll have them go until 5PM EST, but hope to shorten the bidding period as the auction gains popularity.

Bottom line is we want to have everyone have fun with this, we want to help move some of our inventory and we want to do our best to represent the reptile hobby in the best light. If we feel that it is hurting the market in anyway, we’ll suspend the auctions immediately. If you have any concerns or suggestions, please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to listen to your opinion!
